Rafy London

Women's Wear · London · Full Custom Shopify Build

A completely custom Shopify store for Rafy London, a London-based women's wear brand, built with no plugins and no pre-built theme. The build was focused on four things: minimalism, store loading speed, user experience and conversion rate optimisation.

The Brand

Rafy London is a London-based women's wear brand built around a minimalist aesthetic, the kind of brand where a cluttered store or a slow-loading page undoes the impression the product itself is trying to make.

The brief: build a store around minimalism, speed, user experience and conversion rate optimisation, with no plugin shortcuts and no generic theme standing between the brand and its customers.

The Challenge

A minimalist fashion brand has almost nowhere to hide a bad store. There's no busy layout to distract from a slow page or a clunky checkout, so every part of the build had to earn its place. The challenge was to keep the design genuinely minimal while still building a store fast enough, easy enough to shop, and optimised enough to convert a London fashion audience that has plenty of other options a tap away.

What I Built

Every Section, Hand-Coded

1

Minimalism as the Design System

Every visual element was pared back to what the product actually needs: generous whitespace, restrained typography, and layouts that let the photography lead. Nothing on the page competes with the product for attention, which is exactly how a premium women's wear brand should present itself.

2

Speed-First Architecture

Lean code, optimised images, and zero plugin bloat. A fast-loading Shopify store isn't a nice-to-have for a London fashion audience with plenty of alternatives a tap away, so speed was treated as a core requirement from the first line of code, not an afterthought fixed later.

3

User Experience Built Around the Shopper

Navigation, filtering and product discovery were designed around how a real customer shops for women's wear: minimal clicks to a product, clear category structure, and interactions that feel intuitive rather than clever. Good UX here means the customer barely notices the interface at all.

4

CRO-First Product & Collection Layout

Collection and product pages are laid out with conversion as the goal: clear imagery, direct add-to-cart flows, trust signals placed where doubt naturally arises, and section order guided by buying behaviour rather than decoration for its own sake.

5

Completely Custom: No Plugins, No Pre-Built Theme

The entire store is written in custom Liquid, Alpine.js, and Tailwind CSS. Zero third-party apps installed, which keeps the store fully in the merchant's control and free from the slowdowns and visual inconsistency that plugin-heavy Shopify builds tend to accumulate.

6

Smart Cart, Built for a Frictionless Checkout

A slide-out drawer cart that loads instantly, updates in real time, and keeps the customer in the buying flow instead of redirecting to a separate page. For a minimalist brand, the checkout experience needed to feel just as considered as the homepage.

7

SEO-Enabled Architecture

Built with clean semantic HTML, proper heading hierarchy, and structured metadata across every page, giving Rafy London the technical foundation to rank for competitive London fashion search terms without an SEO app patching over theme mistakes.

8

Mobile-First Throughout

Fashion shoppers browse on their phones as much as on desktop. Every layout, tap target and scroll interaction was designed mobile-first, so the minimalist aesthetic holds up on a small screen rather than only looking good in a desktop mockup.

The Core Insight

“Minimalism isn't the absence of effort, it's the opposite. Every element that survives on a minimal store had to justify staying, and everything else was removed. That discipline is what makes Rafy London feel fast and considered at the same time.”

The Approach

Zero Apps

No third-party apps installed. Every feature was coded from scratch, so nothing slows the store down and nothing breaks on a plugin update.

UX-Led Build

Every navigation and layout decision was tested against one question: does this make it easier for the customer to find and buy the product. If it didn't earn its place, it was removed.

Speed as a Feature

Lean code, optimised images, and zero plugin bloat make this a genuinely fast Shopify store. Speed isn't an afterthought here. It's baked into every decision.
